To an Indian, his/her parents are the most important personsin his/her life. But today's life is such that both husband and wife are employed. Loving children are rarely able to give attention to their aged parents especially when the become bed-ridden due to debilitating old age. It is to help those working couples that the geriatric ward has been opened with special expertise needed to take care of the problems of the aged with specially motivated and trained staff. The geriatric ward has been in existence since 1995 and is the only one of its kind in Bangalore. We want this knowledge of care to the aged to be available to more people. Hence this course.

Description of the Course:

A. Duration: 10 months (July to April)

B. Admission Requirement:

  1. Age: Must have completed 17 years on or before 30th June 2007
  2. Minimum education: 10th standard (pass or fail)
  3. Course begins on the 1st of July each year.
  4. They should be medically fit.
  5. Both men and women can apply.

  1. Anatomy and Physiology
  2. Nutrition and cookery
  3. Community Health Care
  4. Community Geriatric Care I
  5. Community Geriatric Care II

Eligibility for Examination:

  1. Students should have attended 75% of formal instruction given on each subject and 75% of clinical field experience during the year.
  2. All the procedures listed in the practical record book must be signed at least one month before the examination.
  3. Students should qualify in the selection examination of the School before the Board of Nursing examination.

Accomodation and Boarding:

  1. Accomodation at the hostel for students is extremely limited and can only be provided if available.
  2. Students desiring hostel accomodation must strictly abide by the rules of the hostel. They should bring their own mattress, pillows, blankets, bed sheets, etc.
  3. the name and full address of visitors allowed by the parents and their relationship to the student must be given at the time of admission. Otherwise the visitors will not be permitted to see the students. Visitors will be allowed to meet the students only during the visiting hours.
  4. Establishment charges for the hostel ahould be paid annually.
  5. Mess fees must be paid by the 10th of avery month. Rs.5/- per day will be collected after the 10th.

Training Period: Registered student must not obtain emloyment in anywhere in any capacity during the training and bond period.

Service Commitment: On admission to the training, every student is required to execute a service commitment on a bond paper to serve this institution or any other diocessan institution to which the authorities of the parent instituton may depute for one year following successful completion of the training.
