Nephrology

A full fledged Nephrology and Dialysis Department came into formal existence in the year 1998 with the collaboration of Manipal Hospital, Bangalore. Since then Dr. G. K. Prakash (Consultant Nephrologist, from Manipal Hospital) has  been in charge of the department.

Seven machines are available for dialysis, one of which is dedicated for HbsAg positive patients in a separate cubicle. Approximately, 300-350 dialyses are being done per month as of now. Temporary access, namely, Internal Jugular / Femoral / SC and renal biopsies are done. Permanent accesses are placed by our Urologists. The Dialysis Technician is in charge of the function and maintainance of the dialysis machines as well as to help in cannulating difficult patients . The nursing staff deal with the dialysis patients initiating them on the machines, maintaining and disconnecting them on the machines, interacting with them to ensure they come at their respective slots for the dialyses, reporting to the doctors any additional information of day to day dialysis, maintaining a record of the patients as well as the consumables of the department.
