The Department of General Surgery is well supported by surgical superspeciality departments. Hence along with the routine surgical work the department is able to handle complex surgical problems with their help. The allied superspeciality support that are available are urology, plastic surgery, thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, neurosurgery and orthopedics.

Laparoscopic surgeries are being carried out regularly since the year 1996. The laparoscoic surgeries done here include Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, Appendicectomy, adherolysis, inguinal hernia repair, incisional, umbilical and paraumbilical hernia repair, laparoscopic splenectomy and nephrectomy. A wide rang of laparoscopic  procedures for gynecological conditions are also done. 

Surgical oncology work is performed routinely and surgery for various cancers like cancer of the breast, thyroid,  stomach, colon, rectum (Whipple's resection), esophagus and pancreas are performed routinely. 

The operation theater is well equipped to perform major vascular surgeries, and kidney transplants. The OT also has  C-arm facility.

The department also performs Upper Gastrointestinal endoscopy, colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy. 

All surgical emergencies are handled regularly.
